FIN361 covers a variety of topics in managerial finance. These topics include the basics of financial statements, the valuation of fixed-income and equity securities, portfolio management, capital budgeting, capital structure, bankruptcy and financial distress, and real options.

The course is divided into three parts. The first part of the course focuses on the time value of money, bonds, and other fixed income products. The second part of the course deals with equities, risk, diversification, and portfolio math. During the course, we think about measuring and pricing risks. The third part of the course introduces students to valuation. We briefly discuss a firm’s capital structure and its effect on discount rates (costs of capital).
